Young Energies visited the country’s most successful urban-themed projects, interviewed their protagonists, held an international video competition and, together with the winners and experts, built a ship named Pontonia. This full-scale floating model of a utopian city was fully self-sufficient with regard to power generation and water purification. Residents experimented with an alternative economic system, and a genuine democracy guided the project’s progression.
Following a launch ceremony, Pontonia left its safe harbor and headed for Berlin’s government district in the heart of Berlin, where this accessible utopia became a central part of an international conference on urban planning at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
Together with Urban Catalyst Studio, Mellowpark Berlin and other experts on urbanism and urban planning, we designed a variety of media to support the project and created a documentary to record and assess the results.
