111 years after it was founded, the Beeskow Museum was in a bad condition. From 2017, an interdisciplinary team headed by us set about redesigning the museum. In future, people in the region will have a reason to come to their museum at least once a year. Against the backdrop of history, the focus will be on the present and future of the region.
Since 2021, a new topic of everyday culture – such as property, building, mobility, food – has been researched every year. What people in the region tell them is the basis for a book, readings in the region’s villages, social media, posters and the exhibition.
The annual funding available corresponds to the amount that was available prior to 2017 for the publication of the “Kreiskalender”, a former publication of the museum, and four – often purchased or improvised – special exhibitions. Through research in the region and the new event formats, there are many opportunities beyond the museum visit to develop a sustainable dialog with the public and society in the region.
Each exhibition is complemented by a work of art created by an artist from the region for the respective annual exhibition.
