In order to involve the people of Dortmund in this transformation process in the long term, the MO founded an advisory board in March 2023 with people from urban society. The MO_Advisory Board brings in perspectives that are not present in the museum team.
In 2024, the museum provided the advisory board with a budget of around €30,000 for a purchase. The members were free to make their own decision within the framework of the basic restoration guidelines. The group agreed to support FLINTA and/or BIPoC* artists with the purchase.
What was originally one work by one artist became two acquisitions each by the artists Camille Chedda and Joséphine Sagna. The works are now on display in the MO_Beirat room in the collection. We designed the documentation for this acquisition process as well as the exhibition graphics for the accompanying exhibition to present the acquired works to the public. The MO_Beirat was also involved in the design process.
We gave the documentary a reliable layout and drew a dynamic line, sometimes across, sometimes circling, sometimes almost straight through the magazine, translating the intensive, democratic negotiation process into a form. Of course, there wasn’t just one or two favorites in the group.
The pages on the purchasing process are each rotated by 90 degrees and spread across the entire brochure. The inserts interrupt the linear articles and require the reader to change perspective from time to time.
