To commemorate the occasion, we designed the catalog Boris Mikhailov: Series of Four. The book focuses on a series of photographs taken in the early 1980s in Mikhailov’s hometown, Kharkiv, which at the time was part of the USSR.
The catalog begins with an introductory essay by Luisa Heese and features 150 photographs, providing a comprehensive overview of Mikhailov’s work. The design is a study in tactile variety, wrapping a glossy transparent cover around a book printed on untreated paper. The contrasts are typographical as well, with the geometric shapes of LL Circular played off against the traditional serifs of Fleischman BT.
