In addition to its vast archives, Aschaffenburg is also home to a big regional public library. Together, their holdings include official documents from businesses and political parties, newspaper articles from over a hundred years ago and numerous photo collections – more than enough material to take the city’s historical narrative online.
Our team embraced this task and developed a participatory website for exploring and researching the city’s history. Anyone can expand the digital street map and contribute findings from their own research. Special areas of the city are provided with QR code stickers, which are linked to the articles on the website. With a smartphone or tablet, it’s easy to explore significant sites in Aschaffenburg’s history.
The website offers more than history, too – all kinds of current topics relating to the city, including event information and more, are highlighted on the homepage.
