#Reformation Education!

In 2017, the University of Marburg’s Museum of Cultural History marked the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation with #Reformation Education! Ideas – Crises – Impacts. Curated by Christina Schlag and designed by Studio Neue Museen (our partnership with Complizen Planungsbüro), this exhibition delved into the links between the Reformation and education.

University of Marburg Museum of Cultural History #Reformation Education! 2017

  • Marburg Castle was the site of the Marburg Colloquy, an important meeting between Martin Luther and other prominent church reformers in October 1529. Using original artifacts and documents, #Reformation Education! sought to link this eventful period in history to contemporary concerns.

  • One of the Reformation’s many consequences was a thorough transformation of the educational landscape. The exhibition’s 600 square meters provided ample room to illustrate the reformers’ ideas and demands, and to explore their implications for education and scholarship.

  • The exhibition’s primary target audience included schoolchildren, university students, confirmation classes and seminarians, as well as teachers and other educational professionals. At the heart of the exhibition were two short movies that provided YouTube-style summaries of the most important concepts.
